The decision of having a child is not to please our parents, no matter how keen they are. We have decided to have children because we want to build a family of our own, as part of our love for each other and engagement in our marriage, as well as what God calls for.
Bringing a living person into life in this world requires our responsibilities as parents, to care, nurture, nourish and educate this child. Every loving parent would want to be involved in the evolution of this miraculous living being. Seeing the child grow, communicate and change is all about constructing this family.
Our own parents should understand that as they had gone through the same. They had loved holding us as babies and would do anything to care for us with their own hands. It’s normal that grandparents love their grand-child but they should not take over our role as parents to the child. It’s us, the mum and dad, who know what’s best for the kid. It’s important that grandparents keep this in mind. They had their chance to play the parent role, and now it’s our turn. So leave us and let us do what we need to do.
